Oedipus X
Written and Directed by Christopher R. K. Hildebrand
Based on The Oedipus Cycle by Sophocles and Seven Against Thebes by Aeschylus
Oedipus X, a classic, panoptic myth of prophecy, incest and disaster shrouded in the failures of the everyman, brings to the X Repertory Theatre the ancient tale of the house of Oedipus. For centuries the Oedipus myth has slowly slipped onto the dusty shelves of academia. In this 21st century telling, the XRT will bring back to life the visceral overtures that formulate the original orally based text. Based on Sophocles’ Oedipus Cycle and Aeschylus’ Seven Against Thebes and infused with a myriad of voices bridging two millennia including works by Freud, Nietzsche, Lacan, Saussure, Chalmers, and Walter Benjamin among many others, Oedipus X deconstructs and reconstructs the most primal tenants of basic human existence. With haunting original music designed by Christopher R. K. Hildebrand, Oedipus X will lead audiences into a world devoid of time and form forcing each individual to question the very nature of their own frailty. The XRT invites you to join us in rediscovering this pantheon work and the dormant pathos it has hidden in the ashes of time.
Much Ado About Nothing
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Sabrina Lloyd
New Orleans. 1863. A country tearing itself apart, brother turning against brother, one bloody overture after the next. Set to the backdrop of the civil war and in the hazy bayous of the deep south, the X Repertory Theatre presents William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing the classic comedy of love, deception and fickle fidelity. A tale of two pairs in the grips of love - each in their own way - and the forces bent on the destruction of their union, as the union around them teeters; Much Ado takes to exposing the fragile façade that often masks the line between absurdity and truth in the ever-going game of love. Once again, the XRT invites you through the kaleidoscope, to experience the laughter of the Bard branded with the flair of an age at war with itself.
